Case of a failed Love

December 5, 2007

Case of a Failed LoveIt happened Today. A friend of mine gave me a call and said that he wanted to end his life. Yes he said that he wanted to ‘committ suicide’.

‘What the hell!’ I shouted to this, rather spontaneously.

‘Because It is hell… I want to give it up!’ he responded.

‘Have you made up your mind?’ I questioned.

‘Yes’ he said, though without conviction.

No he wasn’t joking. His voice said me that he was desperate and saddened.

‘Well… If you have made up your mind… why did you call me?’ I asked.

‘Because… I wanted to say you bye!’ he expressed his reason for embarking on this call. Read the rest of this entry »

Being Mohan Alva

December 5, 2007

Dr Mohan Alva‘What is so special about this person?’ you may ask about Dr. Mohan Alva to me. For this my answer would be ‘What is not?’ Having born in a humble family, after his graduation in Medicine he went on to build series institutions, which are today pursuing excellence, under the banner of ‘Alvas Education Foundation’ in Moodubidri. ‘Alvas and Moodubidri’ is today as synonymous as ‘Pais and Manipal’. But it is not just education with which Alvas are today recognized with. Alvas are today fast gaining the image of being among the finest curators of great and diverse heritage of Karnataka.

My experience with Alvas had begun very recently when I had been there, at their place, to attend Kannada Literary Conference organized by the institution entitled ‘Nudisiri’. It was one of its kind magnanimous Event spread across three days with an estimated Rupees 2 million investment. Being recognized as a National Journalist it might not be among the finest to me, but it is certainly one of the mammoth steps in preserving the Karnataka’s, and Kannadas, centuries old heritage. The efforts put to promote vernacular writers, poets and novelists as well as journalists are one of its kind. It is certainly not that Government of Karnataka hasn’t got any similar efforts going on. But this is something that is poised to earn their envy. Read the rest of this entry »

How should an Editor be?

December 5, 2007

Time is 12:30pm on 2nd December 2007. I am now in Alvas Educational Foundation, Moodubidri. I am here as a media person to attend a National Seminar on Kannada Literature, entitled ‘Nudisiri’. The program is to come to and end on this day.

Me in class

In the Photo: It’s me (first from the first row) in a journalism class. No I wasn’t bored to be in class, as it may seem in the photo. In fact, was listening patiently to all that is being said by expert Kannada Writers.

For the past two days and have been mingling with the students here as one among them. It has been a sheer pleasure. I did also join them in interaction session by sharing benches. The experience is very much enduring for me. It’s wonderful! Read the rest of this entry »

In Appreciation to Alva Education Foundation, Moodubidri

December 5, 2007

I just happened to know about your college magazine ‘Madhyama’. To be honest I am yet to have a glimpse of it. Given that you may certainly wonder as to why is it that I am with this article? This article is to put in my humble word of appreciation on to the management, staff and students, who have done such a wonderful job of organizing, one of its kind, Kannada Conference entitled ‘Nudisiri’.Our Indian culture, which also comprises the culture of Karnataka, is one that is highly accommodating and receptive to new thoughts and ideologies. We believe in ‘Athithi Devo Bhava’, Guests are visible god; we not just say but also believe. But with the advent of Macaulay education and globalization we have fast started loosing our affection and admiration towards this culture, slowly but steadily. Would this culture die its own death is the question that has been bothering me for a quite some time now. I was unable to find that attitude which represents our school of thought. Is that culture missing – I wondered? I was to write an in-depth article with complete absence of a positive example. I was to be saddened. Read the rest of this entry »
