Is this the way to treat a Legend?

M V KamathBy U. Mahesh Prabhu

Before I begin let me admit, honestly, that I am a great admirer and ardent supporter of Madhav Vithal Kamath, better known M V Kamath. He has a very distinct place in my heart. Is among the key inspiration for me to leave the management and enter journalism. Apart from this he made several unparalleled contributions not just to Media but also to the nation at large for which was rightly decorated with Padma Bhushan. At 86 he is more than distinguished and accomplished gentleman living quietly in his small two bedroom accommodation, provided to him by Manipal University, with content. Given this, in the first case, he never wanted to be the Chairman of a Government body like Prasar Bharati with his background of sixty five years as India’s premier journalist, of international repute.

But on a persistent pressure from Sri. L K Advani in 2002 end, he agreed, though reluctantly. It was pursued by Sushma Swaraj and later on January 9, 2003, Sri. Bhairon Singh Shekhawat made him accept it as Chairman of the selection committee. He has been, there on, suffering constantly at the hands of his Bureaucrat CEO’s of IAS. Time and again he has asserted continuously that ‘Media Chief’s job is not the IAS men’s cup of tea’, but Government in its own political interest has insisted on thrusting IAS men as media chiefs in Prasar Bharati as well as, its constituent, Doordarshan and All India Radio.

Hail my brothers in mission

January 26, 2008

By U. Mahesh Prabhu

This poem is dedicated to all the Swayamsevaks of Rastriya Swayamsevak Sangh

O beloved brothers of Sangh,
I hail your spirits, which need to be sung.

Living in chastity free of expectations,
I hail also Guruji, who inspired you all with his noble revelations.

Mission for a noble cause,
To see thy nation supreme and above all.

There exist no words which can express your devotion to the land,
Sacrifice you make are never conceivable to a common man.

Head on you fight the obstacles,
Which you face as if they were never the shackles.

My mother, my land, what can I give you,
For they have given everything they can.

Dubbed as fanatics with no emotions,
By the people who can never understand devotion.

I pity those who have just the imported knowledge of a foreign land,
Who deject all the legacy of my land as if it’s not worthy for a man.

Shame on those who call these men,
As insane and unworthy of the respect that should be due to them.

Who has the wisdom o my brothers? Who has the courage?
The ones like you possess for it takes zeal uncanny to foray.

Foray into the mission, that is so demanding,
So tiring that it seeks a love to the land so enduring.

I hail you my brothers for you are the men of honor,
Men of character and men, who can, in the minds of traitors, implant horror.

Oh my mother, insane, I see in now all my ambition,
Which is so selfish and undeserving when put forth my brothers’ Mission!

I hail you oh my fellow brothers… for your zeal and dedication to the nation and the mission.

To her… my love

December 13, 2007

I wanna talk to her,
For she’s my love.
Can’t explain how much would I be happy,
If I’m ever her beloved.

You’ll think I’m crazy,
As I smile when I hear her name.
The whole world turns upside down,
With a grace she speaks, so much am mesmerized, that I give up fame.

‘We’re Romeo and Juliet’,
It seems to me and many perhaps.
Can’t you see that Love between,
I ask her unasked.

As I fall for you in the ocean of love,
Tonight a hundred thousand rivers of emotions come to bow.

No matter what the future holds for us,
My falling for you would not be wrought.
For you are the beautiful sunshine,
I would like to have as I thought.

I wanna talk to her,
For she’s my love.

THE LONELY TRAVELER: POEM

December 5, 2007

Lonely Traveler

Lonely is the traveler, who travels all alone
Lonely is the traveler, who is without a home
Lonely is the traveler, who has no one to care
Lonely is the traveler, who has no one to share
The Lonely traveler is oh so sad -
The Lonely traveler gave all the tears he had
The Lonely traveler is the guardian of the love, hope and dreams
Oh so it seems…
Now the world will have to pay for the Traveler goes away…
For no one would listen… no one paid attention to the warnings
The traveler had
I’m but a lonely traveler who travels space and time
The warnings I gave were not new nor were they mine
They came from another time
